They don’t have all the soy fillers like mountain house. I grew up backpacking and mountain house was the go to. But these are worth trying out. Meals a pretty darn tasty.

They make low carb/high fat meals and were founded ON the PCT. They’re amazing even though I’m not keto (I sometimes add rice and pasta to mine but my wife is ketogenic and we both LOVE their meals)!! Never going back to Mtn House.

Hi Beatrice, that’s a really good question. Honestly, I think it might depend on the border guards and what type of mood they’re in. I doubt that you would have much trouble, but it’s kinda hard to tell. They were pretty relaxed for us, so we didn’t have any problems, but other hikers have different experiences, so I’d say do whatever you’re comfortable with. Worst case scenario they probably just take the food away from you and you’ll have to buy some new grub. Sorry to not be much help. Have a great trip!

Thank you for your very informative site.
We are planning to backpack in Torres del Paine in December/January and we will be coming from El Calafate. We usually dehydrate and vacuum pack our own meals.
Do you think they would let us bring these over the border into Chile, or do they only allow commercially packaged backpacking food?
Thanks in advance for your answer. Beatrice

One thing I’d love to see a list of the best veg or vegan backpacker meal options. cheers, Anton

Funny you say that, we just had the Breakfast Scramble three mornings ago after a sunrise hike to Fitz Roy! We gave it a 4 squirrel rating, but still very good – surprising how well they do rehydrated eggs!

As far as your question goes, we’re not sure how long the meals would last once repackaged. Maybe a good question to ask Mountain House?
